On Friday April 12th, Colin Stone will take us on “A Wander round the West Country”. His Imaginary Visual Rail Tour takes us from Poole via Bath, Bristol, Westbury, Exeter, Ilfracombe, Padstow, Lands End, Penzance, Yeovil, Dorchester and home to Poole
There is something for all as Steam, Diesel and Electric motive power is seen as we head northwards via the Somerset and Dorset line to Bath. We look in on the West Somerset Railway along the way. Southern delights at Barnstaple and Ilfracombe follow and tourist views take us to Lands End. After visiting Exeter again, the premier Southern line brings us back to Yeovil and so home to Poole.
At some of the locations ‘Then and Now’ pictures illustrate the sad negative changes to our railway system over the years.
The Circle is the local support group for the Swanage Railway and meets in Harmans Cross Village Hall, Haycrafts Lane, Harmans Cross at 7.00 for 7.30 pm. Tea/coffee/biscuits and a railway orientated raffle will be provided as usual.
