The Swanage Railway Trust's principle objectives, as detailed in its Memorandum of Association, are:

-
To preserve and restore for the public benefit items of historical, architectural, engineering or scientific value in connection with railways; and
-
To advance the education of the public in the history and development of railway transportation.
To support this the Railway has two Museum locations: our main Swanage Railway Museum, Archive and Library facility at Corfe Castle station and our Purbeck Mineral & Mining Museum adjacent to Norden station.
