Purbeck Railway Circle May Meeting

The Local Support Group for the Swanage Railway

Our next meeting is on Friday 18th May, David Peel will deliver a presentation entitled "Tourist Trains in Ecuador and Peru 2014". This evenings programme consists of the highlights of two ‘Great Rail Journeys’ tours which David travelled in 2014. The first tour was in Ecuador where the main attraction was a ride on the 'Tren Crucero' southbound from Quito to Guayaquil. This 'luxury' train takes five days to complete the journey, with three nights in well-chosen haciendas en-route. Two short sections are steam hauled and the descent of the 'Devil's Nose' is not to be missed!

The second tour was in Peru where the tour began in Lima and ended in Cusco via Arequipa and Lake Titicaca and Macchu Picchu. The 'Andean Explorer' express connects Puno (on Lake Titicaca) to Cusco in ten hours and reaches 14,200 ft along the way. Access to Macchu Picchu from Cusco is only possible by rail, and all the trains are busy with tourists heading for the World Heritage Site.

The Circle meets in Harmans Cross Village Hall, Haycrafts Lane, Harmans Cross at 7.00 for 7.30 pm.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME.
